A.P. Security Celebrates Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award
We’re thrilled to announce that A.P. Security has been awarded the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award! This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting service members and their families, and we’re proud to stand alongside other esteemed organisations in the UK.
Honouring the Armed Forces Covenant
The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge from employers to honour and support the armed forces community, including reservists and veterans. Winning the Gold Award highlights our dedication to not just upholding this covenant, but actively advocating for the needs of the armed forces community within our organisation and beyond.
Commitment to Equal Opportunities
At A.P. Security, we ensure that no member of the Armed Forces Community faces disadvantages during our recruitment process. We believe in providing equal opportunities and offering special consideration where needed, aligning with the ethos of the Employer Recognition Scheme.
Insights from Our HR and Training Director
Diane Mulkeirins, our HR and Training Director, stated, “Receiving the Gold Award is a testament to our commitment to the armed forces community. The skills and qualities that veterans and reservists bring to our team are invaluable. Their military experience enhances our workforce through teamwork, resilience, and leadership.”
Supporting Our Reservists and Youth Programmes
Our commitment goes beyond recruitment; we actively support our Reservists and engage in youth programme administration for the Ministry of Defence. We ensure that mobilisation processes are in place and provide a minimum of ten days of additional leave for training. We also prioritise youth engagement, encouraging the next generation to appreciate and connect with our armed forces.
How We Achieved the Gold Award
To earn the Gold Award, we demonstrated the following:
Signed the Covenant: We officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating our dedication to supporting service members
Built Relationships: We established strong connections with a National Account Manager and a Regional Employer Engagement Director to ensure effective collaboration
Achieved Silver Award: Having held the ERS Silver Award for an extended period allowed us to develop the necessary plans and policies for our Gold application.
Proactive Recruitment: We actively showcase our forces-friendly approach in recruitment, partnering with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to hire service leavers and registering on the Forces Families Jobs (FFJ) portal.
Informed Workforce: We ensure our employees are aware of our supportive policies regarding defence personnel, including a clear HR policy for Reservists.
Market Leadership: We lead by example in our industry, advocating for defence personnel issues and achieving tangible positive results.
Support for Reservists: We provide at least 10 days of fully paid additional leave for Reservists’ training and ensure our supportive policies are communicated to line managers.
Maintained a Positive Image: We uphold a clean public image, free from negative media attention.
Support for the Cadet Movement: We actively support cadet organisations through mentoring, guaranteed interviews, and investments in local cadet units.
Encouraged Volunteering: We promote volunteering with cadet forces by offering additional leave for employees who serve as Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs).
A Responsibility We Embrace
As part of a region where many organisations have been recognised for their commitment to the armed forces, we are proud to join the ranks of Gold Award winners like Marshall Group and Anglia Ruskin University. Diane also emphasised, “This award is not just recognition; it’s a responsibility. We are committed to continuously improving our support for the armed forces and their families.”
Looking Ahead
We are truly honoured to receive the Gold Award and will continue to strive for excellence in supporting our armed forces community. Thank you for being part of our journey.
