Ageas Bowl

The Ageas Bowl, home to Hampshire Cricket, traded stumps for set lists, providing the perfect location as host for some of the biggest names in music over the weekend, in glorious British sunshine. Rock legend Bryan Adams took to the stage on the Friday, and Britain’s biggest girl group Little Mix performed on the Sunday, attracting huge crowds on both days. AP Security had over 200 staff on each day dealing solely with crowd management, production and back of house security and hospitality security at the integral Hilton Hotel. Whilst the tens of thousands of music fans couldn’t be more different on each of the concerts, both days were a huge success for all involved.

“We were asked by Ageas Bowl last year to look at producing a range of crowd management planning options for the safe arrival, ingress, circulation, egress and dispersal of varying crowd sizes and demographics.” Said AP’s Senior Portfolio Manager, Mike Knowles, “From this work undertaken on bright but bitterly cold February days, it was immensely gratifying to see the plans put in place and work so well in the sweltering thirty degree heat!”

Andrew Stevens, Director of Strategic Development for AP added, “We were delighted with how our planning worked at what seemed down to the smallest detail for the first show with Bryan Adams, and yet still, like all plans, they are there to be modified and so we sought still greater improvements in the 36 hours before the Little Mix show.”

Andrew continued, “Working closely with the management team at The Ageas Bowl and Hampshire Police, we modified our plans for the Little Mix show two days later; involving new arrival routes, managing early arrivals, a slow, managed walk to the barrier for the first 500 in the queue and then the safe, secure and comfortable ingress for the next 20,000!”

Working with a new team will always provide its challenges, and whilst we had worked with Ageas Bowl some ten years previously, A.P. had never worked with the promoters Cuffe and Taylor on such a large scale. We were still in our infancy in terms of developing relationships with Hampshire Police and the local statutory authorities. We arrived to find a hugely collaborative and inclusive approach to the pre-event planning from all those involved, coordinated and driven by the Ageas Management team who gave us access to their key personnel and facilities from the moment we arrived on site, some five days in advance of the first show, as we had indeed received since those wintery days in February.

“I hope that the results were there for all to see from an industry point of view, but moreover, that the planning and delivery translated into a great experience for over thirty thousand Bryan Adams and Little Mix fans over two memorable days in July.” Summarised Mike.

A.P. is delighted to be back at The Ageas Bowl and delighted to offer our crowd management planning and operational delivery services at such a wonderful venue. We very much look forward to working with the team there on more great shows in the coming years and seeing the venue establish itself on the UK circuit; anything else just wouldn’t be cricket!
